About

Christina Bates, an accomplished artist, never envisioned her journey would lead her from suburban Chatham, New Jersey to a remote barrier island. However, her 18-year residence on Daufuskie Island provided tranquility, inspiration, and a profound connection to the island’s rich history. The unique culture, customs, and charm of this sea island became the foundation for her etchings and oil paintings. The simplicity of the island's native life and the close relationships she formed with its extraordinary inhabitants inspired a series of hand-painted, limited edition etchings, for which she is best known.

Currently based in Hendersonville, South Carolina, Christina draws inspiration from the natural beauty and diverse wildlife of the Lowcountry. Her in-barn studio, overlooking her horse farm, serves as a creative sanctuary where she passionately paints dogs, horses, wildlife, and scenes of fox hunting. Her extensive travels further enrich her artistic vision, allowing her to capture the essence of various landscapes and creatures.

When not immersed in her art, Christina cherishes time with her nearby grandchildren, instilling in them a love for the region's artistic traditions, wildlife, and natural resources. Her deep connection to the land and community profoundly influences her creative process, resulting in artwork that resonates with both locals and visitors alike.
